Midlife Relationships: Growing Apart or Growing Up?

May 06, 2026

Growing Apart or Growing Up? Navigating Long-term Relationships in Midlife

Midlife has a way of quietly reshaping everything including long-term relationships. What once felt effortless may now feel distant, routine, or even confusing. If you’ve ever wondered whether you and your partner are growing apart or simply growing up, you’re not alone.

This stage of life often brings transitions: career plateaus or pivots, parenting shifts, health changes, and deeper self-reflection. These shifts can either strain a relationship or strengthen it in ways you didn’t expect.

In this guide, we’ll break down how to tell the difference, what’s really happening beneath the surface, and practical strategies to help you reconnect, realign, and evolve together.

Understanding Midlife Relationships: Why Things Feel Different

Midlife relationships are not failing by default—they’re evolving.

By your 40s or 50s, the dynamics that once defined your partnership may no longer apply. The early years often revolve around building careers, raising children, financial stability, and establishing shared goals.

But midlife introduces a different set of questions:
  • Who am I now, beyond my roles?
  • What do I want in the next chapter of my life?
  • Does this relationship still support who I’m becoming?

This is where tension often begins. Not because love is gone, but because identity is shifting.

Growing Apart vs Growing Up: How to Tell the Difference

Understanding whether you're growing apart or growing up together is critical. The distinction determines whether your relationship needs repair or reinvention.

Signs You May Be Growing Apart
  • Conversations feel forced or purely transactional
  • Emotional intimacy has significantly declined
  • You avoid conflict rather than resolve it
  • Shared goals no longer exist
  • One or both partners feel unseen or misunderstood

These are indicators of disconnection, not just change.

Signs You’re Growing Up Together
  • You’re both evolving but still communicating
  • There’s willingness to adapt and understand each other
  • Conflict leads to clarity, not distance
  • You support each other’s individual growth
  • There’s mutual respect, even during disagreements

This reflects a maturing relationship, not a failing one.

The Midlife Relationship Reset Framework

Rather than asking “Is this over?”, a more productive question is: “What does this relationship need now?”

Here’s a practical framework to help you navigate this phase:

1. Reassess Individual Identity

Midlife often triggers personal rediscovery. Suppressing that growth can create resentment.

Ask yourself:
  • What has changed about me in the last 5–10 years?
  • What do I need now that I didn’t need before?
  • Am I communicating these changes clearly?

Insight: Many relationship issues in midlife stem from unexpressed personal evolution.

2. Reopen Communication Channels

Communication in long-term relationships often becomes functional instead of emotional. Shift from logistics (“What’s for dinner?”) to meaningful dialogue (“How have you been feeling lately?”)

Actionable Tip:

Set a weekly 20-minute check-in with no distractions. Focus on emotions, stressors, personal wins, and relationship needs. Consistency matters more than depth at first.

3. Redefine Shared Goals

Couples who thrive in midlife often update their shared vision.

Instead of raising kids and building careers, shift toward lifestyle design, travel goals, health and wellness, financial freedom, and legacy planning.

The 3 Alignment Questions
  1. What do we want to experience together?
  2. What do we want to build next?
  3. What does “a good life” look like for us now?

4. Rebuild Emotional Intimacy

Emotional distance is one of the most common midlife relationship challenges. Reconnection doesn’t require grand gestures. It requires intentional presence.

Start small by putting away phones during conversations, making eye contact, acknowledging each other’s efforts, and expressing appreciation daily.

Emotional intimacy is rebuilt through consistency, not intensity.

5. Address Conflict Directly (But Differently)

Avoiding conflict leads to silent distance while escalating conflict leads to emotional burnout. Midlife calls for a third approach: constructive conflict.

Use this structure:
  • State observations (not accusations)
  • Express feelings (not blame)
  • Share needs (not demands)

Instead of “You never listen anymore” you can say “I’ve been feeling unheard lately, and I need more intentional time to talk.”

Why Midlife Can Strengthen Relationships

It may not feel like it, but midlife is actually one of the best opportunities to deepen a relationship.

Here’s why:

1. You Know Each Other More Deeply

Years of shared experience create emotional shortcuts and understanding.

2. External Pressures May Ease

As children grow or careers stabilize, couples have more space to focus on each other.

3. You’re More Self-Aware

With age comes clarity about values, needs, and boundaries.

Common Mistakes Couples Make in Midlife

Avoid these pitfalls—they accelerate disconnection:
  • Assuming distance means failure
  • Avoiding difficult conversations
  • Expecting your partner to stay the same
  • Neglecting emotional connection in favor of routine
  • Comparing your relationship to others

Midlife relationships require active participation, not autopilot.

When to Seek Help

Not every relationship can or should be navigated alone.

Consider professional support if:
  • Communication consistently breaks down
  • There’s recurring unresolved conflict
  • Emotional or physical intimacy is absent
  • One or both partners feel stuck or disconnected

A therapist or relationship coach can provide neutral insight and structured guidance.

The Bigger Perspective: Growth Is Not the Enemy

Many people misinterpret change as incompatibility. But growth doesn’t destroy relationships, lack of adaptation does. The goal isn’t to go back to how things were. It’s to build something that fits who you both are now.

Choosing Growth Together

Midlife relationships are not defined by whether you change, They’re defined by how you respond to that change.

If you’re questioning whether you’re growing apart or growing up, that awareness alone is powerful. It means you’re paying attention. And attention is the first step toward transformation.

The strongest relationships at this stage are not the ones that avoided change but the ones that learned how to evolve together.

Start one conversation this week that goes beyond routine. Ask something real. Listen fully. Respond honestly.

Small shifts create lasting impact.

Manifesting Your Ideal Relationship: A Guide to Attracting Love

August 09, 2024

Manifesting Ideal Relationship

Finding a meaningful and fulfilling relationship can feel like a daunting task. However, many believe the key to attracting your ideal partner lies within you. Manifesting your perfect relationship is a powerful concept involving the law of attraction, positive thinking, and self-awareness to draw love into your life. Here's how you can start manifesting the relationship of your dreams.

1. Get Clear on What You Want

The first step in manifesting your ideal relationship is to clearly define what you want. Take some time to reflect on the qualities and values that are important to you as a partner. This goes beyond physical appearance; consider their personality, lifestyle, goals, and how they treat others. The more specific you are, the better the universe can align with your desires.

2. Visualize Your Ideal Relationship

Visualization is a powerful tool in the manifestation process. Close your eyes and imagine what your perfect relationship looks like. Picture yourself with your ideal partner, engaging in activities you both love, sharing special moments, and growing together. Feel the emotions of love, joy, and contentment as if it’s already happening. This exercise helps to program your subconscious mind to attract that kind of relationship.

3. Cultivate Self-Love and Self-Worth

Manifesting a healthy and loving relationship starts with loving yourself. When you cultivate self-love, you raise your vibrational energy, making you more attractive to others. Practice self-care, pursue your passions, and affirm your worth daily. Remember, the relationship you attract will often mirror the relationship you have with yourself.

4. Release Past Hurts and Limiting Beliefs

Holding onto past relationship traumas or negative beliefs about love can block your manifestation efforts. It’s crucial to release any emotional baggage that no longer serves you. Forgive yourself and others, and let go of limiting beliefs like “I’m not worthy of love” or “All the good ones are taken.” Replace them with empowering beliefs such as “I deserve a loving and fulfilling relationship.”

5. Practice Gratitude and Stay Positive

Gratitude is a magnet for positivity and abundance. Start each day by expressing gratitude for the love you already have in your life, whether it’s from friends, family, or even pets. Staying positive and focusing on what’s going well will keep your energy high and attract more of what you want.

6. Take Inspired Action

While manifestation involves a lot of inner work, it also requires taking action. Put yourself out there, whether through dating apps, social events, or hobbies that align with your interests. Trust your intuition and follow any nudges or opportunities that come your way. The universe often works in mysterious ways, so be open to how your ideal partner might appear.

7. Trust the Process

Manifesting takes time and patience. It’s important to trust the process and believe that the universe is working in your favor. Don’t get discouraged if things don’t happen immediately. Keep your faith strong, stay aligned with your desires, and be open to receiving love when it comes.

Manifesting your ideal relationship is not just about finding a partner; it’s about becoming the best version of yourself. By getting clear on what you want, visualizing your ideal relationship, cultivating self-love, and taking inspired action, you can attract the love you deserve. Remember, the energy you put out into the world is the energy you attract back. Stay positive, stay open, and let the universe guide you to your perfect match.

Is your online lover too good to be true? Know the red flags of a love scammer

June 24, 2024

Dating in the digital age has become easier with so many apps and services to choose from. By the end of 2023, it was reported that 441 million people were using dating apps actively, generating around $8.7 billion in revenues globally through matchmaking services.

The appeal of dating apps is that you’re not limited by geography. You can meet people online in your city or in another country; you get to see how they look like from their profiles; find out their interests; and if you begin chatting, you can judge if you’re compatible enough to go on a first date.

Many Filipinos have fallen victim to romance scams, among other fakery proliferating online. Now there’s a Facebook page that crowdsources information and experiences so that you can be more aware about scams. Called Online Alerto, it’s a Facebook community page dedicated to the dissemination of invaluable insights, resources, and strategies related to digital literacy, cybersecurity, and responsible online behavior.

Acting as a collaborative platform, it facilitates members in validating their online purchases and transactions while fostering an environment where personal experiences are exchanged to help enhance online safety and awareness among all members. Online Alerto is absolutely free—all you need to do is join the community page to raise your own awareness about cybercrimes.

While identity theft and hacking are the leading cybercrimes globally, love scams are rapidly on the rise. In Southeast Asia, these crimes have two victims: those deceived by the scam and those that are trafficked into doing the scams.

Online Alerto has pooled resources on the internet for warnings and tips on avoiding love scams.

Avoid these red flags

  • The person expresses strong emotions and love for you very quickly, often within days or weeks of initial contact.
  • They quickly ask you to leave a dating service or social media site to communicate directly on WhatsApp or SMS, where they can manipulate you more easily.
  • If an individual attempts to isolate you from friends and family or requests inappropriate photos or financial information, they could later blackmail you or extort money from you.
  • When you make plans to meet in person, they always come up with an excuse why they can’t.
  • They ask for money for various reasons such as travel expenses, medical emergencies, or business opportunities. This is often the biggest and most obvious red flag.
  • They tell you stories to elicit sympathy, such as being widowed, having a sick child, or facing some urgent crisis.
  • They ask you many personal questions, but they avoid sharing their personal details or give information that cannot be verified such as a home address or workplace.
What scammers say to hook you in

"I or someone close to me is sick, hurt, or in jail."

"I can teach you how to invest."

"I'm in the military far away."

"I need help with an important delivery."

"We've never met, but let's talk about marriage."

"I've come into some money or gold."

"I'm on an oil rig or ship."

"You can trust me with your private pictures."

Ways to protect yourself

  • Reverse search the person’s photo by using online searches like Google Images.
  • Be careful what you post and make public online. Scammers use details shared on social media and dating sites to better understand and target you.
  • Maintain a healthy level of skepticism, especially if things seem too good to be true.
  • Suggest a video call early in your communication.
  • Check their social media profiles for consistency with what they've told you. Look for a reasonable number of friends, photos, and posts over time. A lack of social media presence or a newly created profile can be a red flag.
  • If you decide to meet in person, choose a public place and inform a friend or family member about your plans. Ensure the person you meet matches their online presence.
  • Some dating apps offer identity verification features, like blue checkmarks, to indicate users who have verified their identity through the app.
Join Online Alerto on Facebook to better protect yourself from romance and other scams and learn from other people’s experiences.

A source of strength through thick and thin

May 15, 2024

Life is full of uncertainties, and cancer is one of the toughest challenges families can face. Here, we share the story of one of our policyowners who found a lifeline in the form of insurance. For Cerila Espidillon, her insurance plan not only provided financial assistance but also served as a source of strength for her and her family, enabling them to confront the ordeal without worrying about the added burden of debt.

Espidillon shares her story of resilience and PRU Love:

“I have been insured by Pru Life UK since 2013. I come from a poor family and saw people borrowing money when they got sick, and people who relied on their children to take care of them. I told my husband that I don’t want our kids to worry about us when we grow older.

I knew I made the right decision when I was diagnosed with breast cancer on Valentine’s Day in 2022. Strangely, I didn’t worry and continued with my work here in Dubai. My biggest concern was my kids seeing me sick.

My friend and agent, Peach, helped me process my claim. It was so fast. I didn’t need to follow up because not long after I gave all my documents, the claim was already in my account.

The claim not only helped me pay my hospital bills without going into debt, but also made me feel at ease knowing I am financially covered. I felt the care that Pru Life UK has for its clients. Now I can focus on my recovery and my kids.

Insurance policies offer peace of mind and financial protection, especially from unforeseen incidents. If we want a better life, we need to get insurance.”

Espidillon’s story is just one example of how crucial life insurance can be for families, offering peace of mind during difficult times.

To keep families protected, Pru Life UK launched PRUHealth FamLove, a yearly-renewable protection plan that shares the critical illness coverage to up to four family members in one policy.

Bye situationships? A loving partner can be good for your heart

MakatiMed explains how your romantic relationship impacts your heart health

Everyone knows that being in love and being loved in return is one of the best feelings in the world. The kilig factor that comes from being in a happy relationship makes your days happier and even a mundane errand turns into a cherished memory with the right person.

Rosario Soledad C. Neri-Velhagen, MD from the Section of Cardiology at the top hospital in the Philippines Makati Medical Center (MakatiMed) reveals that science backs loving relationships as they can contribute to one’s heart health.

“Research suggests that strong relationships, particularly in marriage, contribute to overall health. A 2017 study found unmarried individuals with heart disease had a 52% higher likelihood of a heart attack or cardiovascular-related death over nearly four years compared to married counterparts with heart conditions. Overall, data indicates a lower mortality rate for married individuals compared to those never married, divorced, or widowed,” explains Dr. Neri-Velhagen.

According to Dr. Neri-Velhagen, how it works is that the feeling of being in love releases hormones such as oxytocin, which is released in response to hugging, kissing, and other forms of physical touch. Such hormones decrease stress levels and promote calm and relaxation.

“When you’re relaxed, this helps the blood vessels dilate more and ultimately lower your blood pressure,” shares Dr. Neri-Velhagen. “A decrease in blood pressure means less force is exerted on the walls of the arteries with each heartbeat, improving overall heart health.”

Even just thinking of your partner helps. “Studies using imaging techniques reveal that looking at pictures of a romantic partner triggers the parts of the brain associated with mood and pain regulation,” says Dr. Neri-Velhagen. “The thought of one's partner may enhance energy levels by improving blood glucose levels. Healthy blood glucose levels prevent damage to your blood vessels and the nerves that control your heart and blood vessels, decreasing the risk of heart disease over time.”

Of course, the right partner might also encourage you to adopt healthier lifestyle habits. “Doctors can give all the advice they want but the truth is you’re more likely to listen to your spouse if they urge you to eat healthier and exercise more,” admits Dr. Neri-Velhagen.

The next time you see your special person, don’t just thank them for their love, thank them too for giving you a healthier heart. And if you don’t have anyone just yet, be patient and wait for the right one—the one that won’t give you heartaches and heartbreaks. Your heart will thank you for it.

Embracing Solo Love: A Guide on Celebrating Valentine's Day Alone

January 29, 2024

Valentine's Day is traditionally associated with love, romance, and couples sharing special moments together. However, being single on Valentine's Day doesn't mean you can't enjoy the day and celebrate self-love. In fact, it's an excellent opportunity to focus on yourself and create a day filled with joy and self-care. Let us explore some creative and meaningful ways to celebrate Valentine's Day alone.

Treat Yourself to a Spa Day

Begin the day by indulging in a spa-like experience at home. Draw a warm bath, light some candles, and use your favorite skincare products. Take the time to relax and pamper yourself – you deserve it!

Cook a Special Meal

Instead of going out or ordering in, try cooking a special meal for yourself. Choose your favorite dish or experiment with a new recipe. Set the table, use your best dinnerware, and savor the flavors. It's a wonderful way to show yourself some culinary love.

Write Yourself a Love Letter

Take a moment to reflect on your accomplishments, strengths, and the things you love about yourself. Write a heartfelt love letter to yourself, expressing gratitude for who you are. This exercise can be a powerful reminder of self-worth and self-love.

Plan a Movie Night

Create a cozy movie night at home with your favorite films or explore new ones. Whether it's romantic comedies, action movies, or documentaries, choose films that bring you joy. Don't forget the popcorn!

Explore a Hobby

Use Valentine's Day as an opportunity to engage in a hobby you love or try something new. Whether it's painting, reading, gardening, or playing a musical instrument, immersing yourself in activities you enjoy can be fulfilling.

Connect with Loved Ones

While Valentine's Day is often associated with romantic love, it's also a great time to connect with friends and family. Reach out to loved ones, schedule a virtual hangout, or plan a casual get-together. Surrounding yourself with positive connections can uplift your spirits.

Take a Solo Adventure

If possible, consider taking a solo day trip or exploring a nearby park or scenic area. Nature has a way of rejuvenating the soul, and spending time outdoors can be a refreshing way to celebrate Valentine's Day.

Practice Gratitude

Set aside some time to reflect on the positive aspects of your life. Create a gratitude journal and write down the things you are thankful for. Focusing on gratitude can shift your perspective and enhance your overall well-being.

Valentine's Day is not exclusive to couples; it's an opportunity for everyone to celebrate love, including self-love. Embrace the day with open arms, treating yourself with kindness and appreciation. By engaging in activities that bring you joy and practicing self-care, you can turn Valentine's Day into a celebration of your own worth and happiness.

November 29, 2023

Finding love after the age of forty can be an exciting and transformative journey. While the dating landscape may have evolved since your younger years, the opportunities for romance are abundant. Here are some practical tips and strategies for those who are re-entering the dating scene or seeking meaningful connections later in life.

1. Self-Reflection and Readiness

You must know the importance of self-reflection before diving into the dating world. Explore questions to assess your emotional readiness for a new relationship. Take time to reflect on the specific events or relationships that contributed to your failed relationship. Understanding the root causes can be a key step in addressing and overcoming them. Knowing oneself and being comfortable with who you are helps in boosting confidence especially if you feel uncertain about dating again.

2. Embrace Modern Dating Platforms

The prevalence of online dating platforms has become a valuable tool for people over forty looking for a partner. Make sure you are creating an authentic online dating profile. The more honest you are the higher the chances of meeting like-minded individuals.

3. Expand Social Circles

Join social groups, clubs, or classes to meet new people organically. Going out and meeting people can lead to unexpected romantic connections. You can find love through shared hobbies and interests.

4. Communication Skills

Effective communication is key to building strong connections. Learn to become an active listener. Do not be afraid to express emotions and foster open communication.

5. Navigate Challenges

Handling past emotional baggage is a crucial step in creating a healthy and fulfilling present and future. Recognize and accept that you have emotional baggage. It's okay to acknowledge the presence of past experiences that may have left emotional scars. Practice self-compassion and avoid self-blame.

6. Establish Healthy Boundaries

Set clear boundaries in your current relationships to protect yourself from repeating negative patterns. Communicate openly with others about your needs and expectations.

7. Be Open-minded

Be open to different types of relationships and do not limit yourself to preconceived notions. Embrace the beauty of love evolving and changing over time. It is possible to find unexpected and fulfilling relationships outside your initial expectations.

8. Patience and Perseverance

Dating is a process. You will be faced with challenges but you can stay optimistic and just enjoy the process even in the face of setbacks. Surround yourself with supportive friends and family who understand your journey. Share your feelings and experiences with those you trust.

9. Self-care is a must

You have probably neglected self-care in your previous relationship. It is now time to prioritize self-care activities that promote mental and emotional well-being. It is not being selfish. Do not spend all your time with the other person. Set aside activities that you can enjoy alone like running, meditation, reading books, or hobbies.

Finding romance after forty is a journey that requires self-discovery, confidence, and an open heart. By embracing modern dating tools, building confidence, expanding social circles, honing communication skills, and navigating challenges with patience and perseverance, individuals can discover the joy of meaningful connections later in life. Remember, it's never too late to find love, and the journey itself can be a rewarding and transformative experience.

In a long-term relationship? Yes, you can still keep romance burning

February 13, 2023

A MakatiMed expert shares ways to break out of a relationship rut

One day you can’t keep your hands off each other, and you’re constantly finishing each other’s sentences; the next, you find once-cute quirks annoying, and you’re both more preoccupied with what’s in your phones rather than what the other has to say. What happened to that intense, heady rush you felt at the beginning of your relationship when the mere presence of a person you couldn’t stop thinking and talking about made you blush and weak in the knees?

While Hollywood movies condition us to believe that passionate love is forever, science will tell you that the euphoria of a fresh new romance lasts anywhere from six months to two years. “It’s a phase driven by hormones and chemicals in the brain, like dopamine and oxytocin, that trigger attraction, lust, and attachment,” explains Ma. Gia Grace B. Sison, MD, Head of the MakatiMed Wellness Center of the top hospital in the Philippines, Makati Medical Center (MakatiMed). “Eventually, the levels of these feel-good hormones and chemicals taper, the so-called ‘honeymoon period’ is over, and that’s when you see your partner for what he or she truly is.”

Years into a relationship could make you fall into a rut. Suddenly, places and activities that excite you become unexciting and predictable. Respective careers and personal interests can also take your time away from your partner. Longtime couples with kids tend to put romance in the backburner once the responsibilities of raising a family become the top priority.

But just because the honeymoon is over doesn’t mean romance has to end too. “The bottom line is this: Relationships are never static; they grow and evolve the way you and your partner do,” says Dr. Sison. “They also need constant work, so if you want to revive the romance of your early days, you’ll have to be proactive and in it together. Both of you have to want it.”

The best part? If your relationship has matured through the years, any romantic feelings you rekindle with your mate will no longer be fueled by infatuation but by honest and deep love.

Communicate. Spend time together—whether on a mid-week date without the kids or an after-dinner stroll in the neighborhood—to talk and listen. “Refrain from touching on topics like home budget or what your children did in school,” suggests Dr. Sison. “Ask each other how your day went. Plan doable goals like getting fit together. Reminisce about your past—when you first met and what you liked about each other. Communication creates connection and intimacy.”

Try new things. Dine in a restaurant you haven’t been to before. Book yourselves in a place other than your go-to vacation destination. Learn a new skill or hobby together. “Longtime couples are likely to have settled into comfortable, fixed routines,” Dr. Sison points out. “Shake things up occasionally by introducing some novelty into your habits. The shared experience will help bring you closer and give you something to talk about.”

Surprise each other. Here, you don’t have to spend much money or perform grand gestures to do it. “Slip written sweet notes into their bag, wallet, or pocket. Do a chore that your partner is normally in charge of. Drop by unannounced and pick up your Significant Other from work. The thoughtfulness and unexpected act are enough to make anyone feel giddy and loved,” Dr. Sison advises.

Schedule sex. Sure, it sounds un-romantic, but if you schedule a few hours of intimacy instead of springing it on your partner, only to be scorned because “they have a headache,” you both have something to look forward to. Haven’t had sex in a while? “How about cuddling?” says Dr. Sison. “It’s still intimate and can even be sweeter.”

If despite all efforts, things aren’t improving, it’s recommended for couples to seek professional help like a counselor or a therapist. “You can try out individual therapy or marriage counseling. With these interventions, couples can learn healthy ways to communicate and prevent unhealthy habits and patterns, which will eventually help them de-escalate issues in the future and create a more loving relationship,” suggests Dr. Sison.

How a culture of kindness brings hope during the pandemic

August 14, 2020

SYKES Kind

The past months have been very tough. The uncertainty of when the health crisis will end brings anxiety to some of us. Top call center company SYKES Philippines has stepped up in instilling hope among its employees through SYKES Kind, a special online campaign that encourages its employees to build and celebrate a culture of kindness starting from inside the workplace and out.

SYKES’ new campaign was founded on a thought-provoking question it posed for employees: “What kind of a teammate are you? ”From its decades of experience in the business, SYKES has successfully established a work culture centered on helping people, which has become the very definition of the “SYKES Kind” of teammate. It set a great example just recently when SYKESers went above and beyond the call of duty with their agile and caring response to the health crisis, which ensured that other teammates remain safe.

“The SYKES Kind campaign is a simple reminder that basically tugs at the core of our humanity, on what it means to be human. For us, it’s the small acts of kindness that can make a big difference in lifting someone’s spirit like expressing your gratefulness by saying thank you, and letting someone know how much you appreciate them. Each moment is a chance to ease someone’s burden and if only we are more mindful of others’ needs, we can all rise above life’s challenges, this corona virus pandemic included,” said Ken Juarez, Vice President, Area Operations.

To kick things off on the first day of the campaign, SYKESers participated in “Say Something Nice Day,” an offbeat holiday recognized in many parts of the world. To join the cause, SYKESers simply had to take to social media and express their appreciation and gratefulness to their teammates, leaders, and frontliners.

To further support the campaign and raise the morale of the employees, the SYKES Senior Management team has likewise stepped up to the plate. In a series of videos on social media, their stories on how SYKES is embracing the new normal, along with the kindness that they have witnessed in doing so serve as encouragement to all viewers, SYKESers or otherwise, to always choose to be grateful, positive, and kind.

The SYKES Kind campaign was initially designed to spread positivity and kindness and boost the emotional well-being of SYKESers who continue to work onsite and have been staying at the office or temporary lodges since the community quarantine. It was then extended to its online community to encourage the practice of kindness even to people outside the organization. With the cooperation and active participation of SYKESers and through the effective utilization of social media platforms, a wider audience is reached and influenced with the infectious good vibes.

The SYKES Kind campaign is further amplified by encouraging the receivers of these little acts of kindness to pay it forward. SYKESers are gradually building hope around their circles in their own ways, and at the same time inspiring others to follow suit.

“Through this campaign, we also want to reinforce SYKES’ core values and reiterate our purpose statement of helping people, one caring interaction at a time, which extends beyond the business relationships we’ve built. It is a mindset that we hope our employees would practice in their personal lives as well. For instance, the campaign reminds them that simply being there for a friend is enough to help them cope with the challenges they are facing. This is exactly what the SYKES Kind of teammate is,” said Lia Lynn Marcos, Senior Director, HR APAC. “After all, being helpful and kind to one another has always been intrinsic to the Filipino culture so, in a way, the campaign allows us to celebrate who we are as Filipinos.”

Go and spread kindness today! The SYKES Kind campaign may be viewed at SYKES Philippines’ official Facebook page, YouTube channel, and Instagram account. More information about SYKES Philippines may be found at its official website.

To The Woman Who Feels Unworthy

January 03, 2020

When you love someone, you always give all that you have. That is who you are. You want him to hear love, feel love, and know love. You care more about making him smile and feel good. But how about him?

You are making yourself believe for the longest time that as long as you are able to show him love, everything will be okay. You also know that it's not how relationship works. You know you deserve to be appreciated for all the love and care you shower him.

Your heart longs to be cherished.
You thirst for passion.
You pray for an attentive partner.

He has no emotion. He is incapable of understanding your feelings. He is nothing. He emptied your cup until you having nothing more to give. Until there's nothing left for yourself.

"You accept the love you think you deserve."

You accept less because you think you deserve it. You accept neglect. You accept rejection. You always justify his actions. You accept everything because you don't love yourself first.

Hey! You deserve the world!

You are a woman who deserves to be heard without feeling ashamed for letting him know what you want. You deserve to be reminded that you are beautiful and someone he can always be proud of. You don't have to be guilty for spending an hour to pamper yourself. You are entitled to have some time alone to recharge and refocus.

You are a wonderful person.
You are worthy.
You deserve better.

To the woman who feels unworthy... I've been there. And then I learned to love myself more. Now I know what I deserve and I don't settle for less.

How To Be A Happy Woman

January 22, 2019

There are bad days. Women experience hormonal imbalance and it affects our mood. We sometimes get super irritable even on trivial issues. But this should not be an every day thing for us. We should make it a habit to have a positive and a healthy mindset.

"Once your mindset changes, everything on the outside
will change along with it."

Start the day with a grateful heart. Give thanks for a brand new day. If you are a morning person, appreciate the silence of the dawn while enjoying your cup of coffee. If you are like me who starts the day around 9 am, my husband is already off to work and I wake up alone in bed. The idea of him kissing me while I was asleep before leaving the house always makes me smile.

One of my favorite quote is "dolce far niente" or the sweetness of doing nothing. Simply revel in the moment of being alone and doing nothing for a few minutes. Whenever I am having a very busy day, I would get off my chair for a while, stare out the window to have a glimpse of the pool and think of nothing.

Make time for the people in your life who matter. Spend an hour with one person every month. You'll be able to reconnect with 12 people in a year. Even though we get to keep in touch with them on social media, nothing will replace talking with someone while enjoying a good meal.

Let what you love be what you do. This has been my personal mantra since I started my blog Snapped and Scribbled in 2013. Learn to say NO to the things that you don't want to do and focus more on the things that makes you happy.

Be adventurous. Have you ever encountered the question "When was the last time you did something for the first time?"? I make it a point to experience something new once in a while. Some are scary while some are as simple as eating stinky tofu.

Stop making excuses. Just start doing the above five things you should do to be a happy woman. NOW.
