I was very excited for 2020. It seems like a perfect start for everything wonderful. After all, 20-20 reminds me of a clear vision. If you are like me who've been wearing prescription eyeglasses for decades, you know how it feels like seeing things in a blur.
I didn't expect for this virus to have a life-altering effect on almost everybody around the globe. I though we will all be back to normal in a month's time. Now, we have to adapt to the new normal. We have to rely on our resilience to help us make it through and find joy in difficult time.
It is normal to forego of celebrations and feel guilty of indulging when a crisis hits our life. We believe that the right thing to do is to focus finding solution to the problem at hand. Some people even criticize those who find pleasure while others are suffering. But is it really inappropriate to laugh or find joy even on the simplest things?
A joyful life attracts positive vibes and feel-good energy, and it makes us to look into the future with high hopes.
“We cannot cure the world of sorrows, but we can choose to live in joy.” —Joseph Campbell
How do you find joy in difficult time?
Practice self-love.
It is very true that you cannot give what you don't have. And if you do not love yourself, how could you spread love to others? Taking care of yourself is not being selfish. Prioritizing your health and well-being will make you more capable of giving your best self to the people around you. Eat healthy, promote wellness by keeping fit, and devote a few hours doing the things you enjoy like gardening or simply watching a movie.
Engage in fun activities with family members.
Joy multiplies when shared. We have been staying indoors for months now and the people we live with are probably as anxious and restless as we are. Engaging in activities you all enjoy doing together like board games or cooking will not only keep you preoccupied but can also make the bond stronger.
Dress up!
When was the last time you dress up? It's really comfy wearing pajamas all day and you feel like there's no point of getting glammed up. Well, browse through your closet and pick an outfit that makes you feel joyful or reminds you of a good time. Take some photos or wear it to dinner.
Tough times are here to stay longer than we want it to. There are things beyond our control but we there are those we could do something about. Joy doesn't need to be missing in our life just because we are struggling. Smile and find joy in struggle.
